Acidity

Unhindered on ‘modern day society cooked foods, high proteins, cereals and sugars’, the body is at risk of developing high acidity levels which may account for symptoms / onset of:

Arthritis / Candida / Cellulite / Dehydration / Diabetes / Diverticulitis (a common digestive disease) / Gastroesophageal reflux disease / Gout / Heartburn / High Cholesterol / Heart disease / Inflammation in chest / Insomnia / IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) / Kidney stones / Lethargy / Nausea / Obesity / Respiratory problems / Sinus problems / Skin conditions / Sluggish lymph circulation.

“What is High Acidity?”

Acidity is one of a most common root cause of many disease conditions. It occurs when there is excess secretion of acids in the gastric glands of the stomach. When the secretion is more than usual, you will feel what is commonly known as ‘heartburn’ which is normally triggered off by consumption of spicy, fried, fatty, junk food, milk and dairy products to name but a few.

“Are You Overly Acidic?”

Monitor your own saliva with litmus test paper. The test will determine whether your body fluids are either too acidic or too alkaline. Purchase litmus paper, and apply saliva or urine to the paper. The paper will change colour to indicate if your system is overly acidic or alkaline. Red litmus paper turns blue in an alkaline medium and blue litmus paper turns red in an acid medium. Always perform the test either before eating or at least one hour after eating. If your test indicates that your body is too acidic, consult the recommendations below.

Try to avoid the following Acid forming foods:

Alcohol / Caffeine / Canned / Cooked / Dairy products / Fatty / Fried / Grains cooked (macaroni, spaghetti) / Irradiated / Meats / Microwaved / Pasteurized / Processed / Refined Sugars. These foods all lack essential enzymes, vitamins and nutrients that are required to encourage and sustain optimum health.

Although ingredients of raw diet, the following foods are also acid forming:

Cranberry, grapefruit, lemon, orange juices / oily salad dressing / raw onion / tomato.

Home Remedies for Overly Acidic symptoms:

Charles Silverman, Dr of Naturopathic Medicine, a practitioner who applies natural therapies including fasting, nutrition, water, exercise and natural practices for wellbeing.

Anyone considering changing their diet should first consult their General Practitioner particularly those with specific medical requirements.

Natural Hygiene

Alkaline foods such as vegetables are eaten in much smaller quantities; their alkaline content is insufficient to neutralize surplus acid. Stimulants such as tobacco, coffee, tea and alcohol are extremely acidifying. Stress and physical activity (both insufficient or excessive amounts) also cause acidification.

A clean Alkaline body will utilize oxygen approximately 20 times more efficiently than an acidic system. Blood requires an Alkaline measurement Potential Hydrogen (pH) =7.365 to use oxygen - explicitly vital to all cells. Greek: Hydro (water). Genes (creator) also known as, “water maker”  H²O.

Healthy H²O level average should be approximately 70% of body mass and close to 85% in the brain. General recommendations for daily intake of water 1 – 2 litres based on individuals’ requirement. (information only: one litre of water weighs approximately one kilo)
